Why St. Mary Magdalen?

St. Mary Magdalen School opened its doors in the fall of 1960 to students in first through third grades. Today the school enrolls 408 students in preschool through eighth grade. 95% of our students are Catholic. Approximately 75% of our graduates go on to Catholic high schools! 2010 is the school’s 50th Jubilee Year!

St. Mary Magdalen School earned the full six-year renewal status of accreditation through the National Association of Accredited Schools and the Western Catholic Education Association.

Students at St. Mary Magdalen School perform significantly above the national, state, and Archdiocesan averages on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS), a standardized achievement test. On the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL), a performance based test, student results have also been consistently above the state and Archdiocesan averages.

Students respond to those in need through service projects such as the parish St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank,  Haiti earthquake victims, Healing the Children, Catholic Relief Services, Tsunami relief, Catholic Community Services, Rice Bowl, March of Dimes, and many other projects in the local community and around the globe.

Students are involved in a great variety of activities, including a special Art Friends project with Kindergarteners and parish seniors, cross age helpers between classrooms, “Reading Buddies”, altar servers, student government, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Science Fair, May Crowning, and a host of other special events.

Our most recent service project was “Gifts from the Heart” which raised over $5,000 for the efforts of Catholic Relief Services in Haiti and the Philippines.
